Installing Blum Tandem Glides in deep cabinets where rear bracket will not work

  1. How would you install side mounted glides when the cabinet has side by side drawers with no divider, for example a standard center stile base with 2 drawers and 2 doors?

    1. You would need to suspend a piece of plywood from the ceiling of the cabinet (ideally, just screw it through the cabinet top strips). The only purpose of that plywood is to support the glides, so the plywood can be any scrap you have laying around. Doubling up 2 pieces of 3/4″ will perfectly flush the suspended plywood with the front frame opening.

  2. For the deep cabinets with inset drawers, do you still use the plastic Inset Mounting Brackets for the front end of the slide? Or just plywood?

    1. Hey Miranda, thank you for your question. For inset cabinetry, you could do it either way. The benefit of using the Inset Mounting Bracket is the front-to-back adjustment to square the drawer front with the face frame (this assumes you use the slot when mounting the back of the glide to the plywood spacers). Have a great day!

  3. Hi,
For inset drawer hardware installation, What’s the distance from the back of the face frame to the back screw holes. Do you have an exact measurement number?

    1. Hey Avi, thanks for your question. I believe you are asking ‘how far back into the cabinet do you mount the vertical cleat’, correct? There is no set ‘rule of thumb’ on this because some applications require that the cleats get installed horizontally (if there are shelves below, for example), and some applications allow you to install the cleats vertically to catch multiple glides (on a 2, 3, or 4 drawer cabinet). Unfortunately, I don’t have specific lengths for the two ‘extra-deep’ glide sizes (27″D and 30″D cabinet glides) that would be used in the application that is shown in this video. Your Cabinet Coach should be able to assist you with more specific tips based on each application. Have a great day!
