Introduction

It's a glorious day here at Cabinet Joint. I'm Justin, and in today's video, I'm going to show you how to locate where to drill to install your drawer glides.

Now, in a situation like a custom cabinet, or like this cabinet here where the customer wanted to add an extra hidden drawer in their cooktop cabinet, it won't come pre-routed on your cabinet side. So, you will have to locate and drill the holes yourself. That's what I'm going to show you how to do in this video. On the screen is a list of tools that you need to do this.

Chapter 2: Tools and Supplies

Once you have those tools ready, we can get right into the installation.

All righty. So, first things first, I'm temporarily placing my top stretcher. That way, I have something to measure off of.

Chapter 3: How to Locate Drawer Glides

Your horizontal measurement will be completely dependent on your drawer box size. So, for me, I'm measuring down 2⅞", but that could be different depending on the height of your box, as well as where you want it inside your cabinet.

So, I made my mark, and then I am squaring off a horizontal line from the front. That way, I have a reference line to go off of for the rest of my marking out and laying out.

So, I had the luxury that this cabinet already had some other drawers in it. So, I was just able to square off of that.

But if you don't have that luxury, you can just measure back ⁷⁄₁₆", 1⁷⁄₁₆", 2¾", 10⁵⁄₁₆", and 20⅜" on that horizontal line that you just made.

Chapter 4: Measurements

And that will be your location for your hole marks. And you can always double-check this by putting your drawer glide on it, just to double-check that those hole locations are correct.

From there, I'm taking a ³⁄₁₆" drill bit, and I put it in one of those pre-existing holes that I already had and then put a piece of tape. That way, I know I'm not going to be drilling too far.

You can also do this by just taking your Euro screw and putting it next to your drill bit, then giving your drill bit just a ¹⁄₁₆" extra length compared to your Euro screw and placing a piece of tape. That way, you don't drill too far.

And with that little piece of tape on, I am now good to go and drill out all of my holes at those five locations that we had previously mentioned.

And then, once I have all of those drilled out, I'm going to take my drawer glide and take that Euro screw and install all five Euro screws in their holes.

While I'm at it, I'll go ahead and place the other drawer glide that was already pre-drilled. And then I am going to complete those same exact steps on the other side of my cabinet, making sure that everything stays nice and square, as well as level, on the cabinet sides.

And once I have done that on both sides, I am all ready to assemble my cabinet.

And that is all you need to know on how to find your drawer glide locations with no pre-drilled holes.
