Introduction

It's a glorious day here at Cabinet Joint. My name is Justin, and in today's video, I'm going to be giving you a design guide to your filler columns.

What you're looking at here is a base filler column. We also have a wall filler column or the tall filler column. The only difference between those is the height.

Design Guide

So, with your custom kitchen, something that can make it stand out is a difference in depth. Instead of just having a flat line of cabinetry, something like this column here standing out really gives you a point of visual interest for your kitchen.

I've seen these used around your range. I've seen these used above your range hood, as well as utilized in islands, desks, bookshelves, and all sorts of different options. These are really helpful in creating that visual interest and creating that change of depth.

What you're looking at here is a base filler column, and it has a flush end on one side, as well as an extended style here on the other side. Now, the extended style isn't really extended. Instead, this side here is just put in ¾". That way, an end panel will fit later on.

This is going to go in an island, and I'll show you how this will all interact with the island later on in the video.

But, as far as this column goes, you have the option of having it smooth and just a flat surface like you see here, or a fluted option as well.

And then, within the fluted option, you can have it tapered or just flat. And the difference is minor, but you'll have a tapered end where it almost looks like a bullet kind of at the top. Or you'll just have a solid round all the way up.

You have the flush toe option, as well as a toe kick option for your base fillers.

And as far as measurements go, you can get this at either 3" or 6". There is no in between. It's one or the other.

And for your height, you can get it between 31½" all the way up to 96" tall. And then your depth, you can go between 5½" all the way to 30".

So, wherever you're using this, say your office or your kitchen or your island, this is an incredibly helpful accessory that we offer.

Something important to notice is this has no storage inside. This is not a pull-out. This is not any sort of secret access at all. This is strictly for decoration, as well as structural purposes. So, keep that in mind as you're designing your cabinet.

As I mentioned, this is going to be utilized in an island. So, let me get everything together, and then you can see how this will all interact.

So, here you see a common example of where we use this with an island. So, this would be one side of the island. Then we have our end panel here. And then we're able to just slide this right in and have this then transition over here to the back side of your island.

And everything looks flush, everything looks seamless, everything looks very custom.

And it also then supports the weight of your countertop. So, you have the ability to then put your chairs or bar stools or whatever on the other side of the island.

So, the use of this filler column in that island is just one creative way that you can utilize this accessory in your kitchen or your office or wherever else in your house.
